Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteering is a fun and rewarding way to help us make a difference. Your time and talent is valuable in helping to support our fundraising work.

We’re on the lookout for helpful and reliable volunteers to assist with a wide range of volunteer opportunities.

All volunteers helping the Charity must first register with us before carrying out any volunteering activity. If you have not already done so, please register online.

Whether store collections, helping out at our events, or assisting in our charity office, there are many ways that you can get involved. Our current volunteer opportunities are listed below:


Brookside Miniature Railway Grand Re-opening Fun Day

Role available: Volunteers to collect donations

Where:  Brookside Miniature Railway, Brookside Garden Centre, London Road, Poynton, Stockport, Cheshire, SK12 1BY

When: Sunday 20th March 2022

Time:  9.45am – 4.30 pm

Minimum volunteering time:  Volunteers required for a minimum of 4 hours in the above time slot.

Skills Required:  Welcoming smiles, cheery outlook and comfortable talking to people

Age Restriction 18+

Number of volunteers required:  6-10

Details:  Brookside Miniature Railway are re-opening after refurbishments to their popular family attraction at Brookside Garden Centre.  All money raised from train ticket sales to be donated to Royal Manchester Children Hospital and we will be collecting donations on the platform and in the vicinity where there will be other attractions such as a steam traction engine and swings.

All volunteers will be sent a brief specific to their role before the event.

Travel:  Volunteers are responsible for making their own way to and from the venue.

Tour de Manc 2021

Type(s) of roles available: Marshals, Food & Beverage distribution

Where:  Saddleworth Hotel, Huddersfield Rd, Delph, Oldham OL3 5LX

When: Sunday May 1st 2022

Time:  From or Between 9am to 4pm

*Minimum volunteering time:  We ask all volunteers to volunteer for a minimum of 4 hours within the above time

Skills Required:  Welcoming smiles, cheery outlook and ready to encourage participants. Organisational skills

Age Restriction?  18+

Number of volunteers required: 8 – 12

Details: We are one of three headline charities for this iconic cycling event. Riders tackle one of four gruelling routes spanning the whole of Greater Manchester. RMCH Charity is running the first pit-stop 38 miles into the course, expecting 1500 – 2000 riders to come through.

We need volunteers to help make this event as much fun as possible for our participants. The following roles are available:

  • Marshalls – friendly faces within our pitstop showing the way
  • Servers – helping distribute snacks and water to riders
  • Setting up serve points (tables / gazebo)

All volunteers will be sent a brief specific to their role before the event.

Travel: Volunteers are responsible for making their own way to and from the event. Car parking is available.

Great Manchester Run

Types of roles available: Cheer point volunteer, meet & greet volunteer

Where:  Manchester City Centre

When: 22nd May 2022

Time:  From or between 8:30am to 4pm

Minimum volunteering time:  We ask all volunteers to volunteer for a minimum of 4 hours within the above time.

Skills required:  Welcoming smiles, enthusiasm, able to chat with event participants and their friends and family.

Age Restriction?  18+

Number of volunteers required

Cheer point: 20+
Meet and greet volunteers: 5

Details: Be a part of the largest 10k race in Europe! We need volunteers to help make this event as much fun as possible for our participants and their families. As well as to thank them for taking on this incredible challenge in aid of our family of 10 hospitals across Manchester and Trafford. It will be an amazing day.

The event will also see the famous Blue Wave, where hundreds of #TeamMFT NHS colleagues complete the route in celebration of our NHS here in Manchester!

Cheer point volunteers:

  • Help set up / take down our cheer point on the route
  • Create a fun and celebratory atmosphere
  • Greet any friends and family of participants who stop by
  • Cheer on runners as they go past

Meet and greet volunteers

  • Help set up and decorate the marquee, and take down at the end of the event
  • Greet friends and family of participants
  • Thank and say well done to runners as they arrive
  • Hand out drinks and snacks

All volunteers will be sent a brief specific to their role before the event.

Travel:  Volunteers are responsible for making their own way to and from the event.

Manchester Charity Dragon Boat Challenge

Type(s) of roles available: Charity stand volunteers

Where:  Trafford Watersports Centre, Sale Water Park, Sale, M33 2LX

When: Sunday 8th May 2022

Time:  From or Between 12pm – 6pm

*Minimum volunteering time:  We ask all volunteers to volunteer for a minimum of 4 hours within the above time

Skills Required:  Welcoming smiles, cheery outlook and ready to encourage participants. Organisational skills

Age Restriction?  18+

Number of volunteers required: 6 – 10

Details: The Manchester Charity Dragon Boat Challenge returns to a new venue for the 2022 edition. We will have 4 teams taking part, and a charity stand on the day to talk to supporters
