Volunteering for our Charity
By giving your time, you can support our fundraising work
By volunteering for Manchester Foundation Trust Charity, you will help us to raise vital funds to make a difference for patients cared for throughout our family of hospitals. Volunteering with us also offers a fun and rewarding way to meet new people, build skills, and gain valuable experience.
There are lots of ways you can get involved as a volunteer, including:
- Marshalling at fundraising events such as walks or cycle rides
- Cheering on participants in sporting events
- Staffing charity stalls in our hospitals or at our events
- Taking part in charity collections
- Dressing up as our mascot Humphrey (a big green bear!)
- Placing charity posters or leaflets in your local community
We welcome anyone with a passion to make a difference and a willingness to give their time and energy to support our fundraising work.
You can volunteer with us from the age of 16, although some of our volunteering opportunities may require you to be 18 or over. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds, experiences, and walks of life.
To register your interest in volunteering, please complete our Volunteer Registration form.
Please note: Our volunteering opportunities relate specifically to supporting our charity activity. If you are looking for regular volunteering roles directly within our hospitals, please visit the Trust’s Volunteer Services page here: Volunteers – MFT Careers

Most of our volunteer opportunities do not require you to have any experience or specialist skill. We will provide all the training and information you need.
Most of our volunteering opportunities are for short-term or one-off events rather than long and on-going placements. Volunteering is flexible and you can state the type of activities you are interested in and hours that you are available on the registration form.
The majority of our volunteering opportunities do not require a formal interview. We will ask you to complete a volunteer registration form, so that we can offer you a suitable opportunity. For some roles we may need to meet you for an informal chat.
Our volunteers do not receive any payment for their work, but we are able to reimburse reasonable travel expenses. Travel expenses, up to the value of £5 per full day, will be reimbursed upon production of a receipt within seven days of the volunteering.
To volunteer you must be at least 16 years of age. Volunteers aged 16 or 17 will require written consent from their parent or guardian.
