For some people, the Three Peaks Challenge might seem like a daunting way to fundraise, but what about that challenge with added cycling?
That’s exactly how Amy Warrener, 24, from Northwich, is raising money for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, with her self-coined Peaks and Pedals challenge. Amy will be taking on the Three Peaks Challenge and cycling the distance in between all three, raising money for the hospital in memory of her late cousin Charlotte, who would have celebrated her 23rd birthday this year.
Charlotte passed away when she was only two years old due to a rare genetic disorder. At the time, Amy was five years old, and the passing of Charlotte was one her earliest childhood memories. Charlotte’s passing has inspired Amy to seize life and be grateful for every day and thus, before the age of 30, Amy hopes to honour Charlotte’s life by raising £30,000 for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital – one of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust’s (MFT) family of 10 hospitals - where Charlotte was treated.
Amy says: “Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is a beacon of hope for so many families across Manchester and the surrounding areas. Families who are going through the most unthinkable of times.
“Not only do they help to provide care to those children who so desperately need it, they also act as a shoulder to lean on for the families, like my own, who experienced their support first hand. It is for these reasons I have chosen to raise money for this incredible cause.”
Always on the lookout for an extreme challenge where she can test her physical and mental strength, Amy is taking on the Three Peaks Challenge and cycling between them, in what she has coined Peaks and Pedals. The challenge on Thursday 20 June is her biggest yet, with the aim of climbing the three UK peaks - Snowdon, in Wales (1085m), Scafell Pike, in England (978m), Ben Nevis, in Scotland (1345m) – and cycling the 700km between them in under 72 hours.
To date, Amy has raised over £5,000 of the £30,000 total target she aims to raise, having previously taken on the London to Paris Bike Ride and the Northwich Marathon. She hopes to raise £10,000 taking part in Peaks and Pedals through sponsorship from local businesses, friends, family, and contacts.
Amy said: “I am an even mixture of completely bricking it and super excited. I am hoping for great weather which will hopefully help keep morale high. The training is going really well too. It is a lot of long hours on the bike and early mornings in the gym, but I keep reminding myself that it is all for an amazing cause.”

“Here at Manchester Foundation Trust Charity, we’re in awe of Amy’s Peaks and Pedals Challenge. What a brilliant way to raise money. We wish her the best of luck with the challenge and hope it can support her equally inspiring plans to raise £30k for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital before she is 30.”
