Renew Hub team members volunteering at food stall during Tour de Manc
Wednesday 05th June 2024

We were thrilled to team up with the SUEZ team based at the Greater Manchester Renew Hub to deliver exceptional engagement opportunities for our supporters at the 2024 Tour de Manc last month. The collaboration allowed us to enhance the event experience for participants through their voluntary support!

Collaboration Highlights

We love working with our partners to make events the best they can be, and the collaboration with SUEZ and the Renew Hub is no exception. The Renew Hub team played a pivotal role in showcasing their talents and promoting their mission to our charity supporters and the wider Tour de Manc audience.

SUEZ volunteers from the Renew Hub were brilliant on the day, ensuring our pitstop was the best it could be. Their efforts helped to look after our supporters and encourage them to fundraise, boosting the overall income raised from the event. Additionally, Renew Hub donated an incentive prize, further enhancing our fundraising efforts.

In the lead-up to the event, we worked closely with the Renew Hub team to plan how best to showcase our two organisations and make the most of our talents. This preparation ensured a smooth and successful collaboration.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering offers numerous benefits for both individuals and teams. As Micheal Chick, Communications and Partnerships Manager at SUEZ, put it, "It was great to meet new people, step away from our normal roles, and support a worthwhile cause."

Volunteering provides an opportunity to develop new skills, foster teamwork, and give back to the community, all while making a positive impact.

The Importance of Volunteering

Volunteers are essential to the success of our events. They help boost fundraising efforts, promote our events, and ensure a welcoming atmosphere for our supporters. Here are some key reasons why volunteering is so important:

  • Boosting Fundraising: Volunteers play a critical role in encouraging donations and fundraising, which directly supports our charitable efforts.
  • Event Promotion: Volunteers help spread the word about our events, attracting more attendees and increasing charity income.
  • Supporter Engagement: Friendly volunteer faces help make our supporters feel at ease and appreciated.

SUEZ recognises the importance of volunteering and offers its employees a day a year to volunteer.

Tips for Successful Collaborations

To ensure successful collaborations, here are some tips:

  • Open Communication: From the start, have an open and honest conversation about what each organisation needs to make the collaboration a success.
  • Value Alignment: Ensure that the values of the collaborating organizations align. For example, the Renew Hub is committed to sustainability and has donated over £1 million to good causes in Greater Manchester.
  • Clear Goals and Responsibilities: Set clear goals and responsibilities to ensure everyone knows their role.
  • Regular Meetings: Hold regular partnership meetings to ensure the preparation is running smoothly and address any issues promptly.

We look forward to another successful Tour de Manc with the support of our incredible volunteers and partners. Together, we can make a difference and support the causes that matter most to our community.

About the Greater Manchester Renew Hub

When you donate your unwanted items at the Renew container at your local recycling centre in Greater Manchester, they are taken to the Renew Hub. They’re then cleaned up, mended if necessary, or upcycled before they’re sent on to one of three Renew shops or sold online on eBay or the Renew online shop.

In this way, hundreds of tonnes of pre-loved items which would have otherwise gone to waste are made available to Greater Manchester residents at affordable prices.

Money raised via Renew goes back to the local community through the Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity and the R4GM Community Fund.
