Morrisons Foundation donates £48,100

Morrisons
Tuesday 20th June 2017

The Morrisons Foundation has donated £48,100 to a Manchester charity which aims to make a difference to thousands of young patients treated each year at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

The charity supports the hospital by fundraising to support excellence in the treatment, research and care that is provided to the hospital’s young patients. It aims to make a real difference to the children and young people cared for at the hospital by ensuring they continue to receive the highest quality treatment in the highest quality facilities.

The donation will be used to create a new multi-sensory room so that very poorly children at the hospital can enjoy some much needed space away from the ward environment.  Children on the ward can have a range of medical conditions and the new facility will give them a place to relax, play with specially designed equipment and have fun with their families.

Tanya Hamid, Deputy Head of Charities at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity commented: “We are incredibly grateful to receive this generous donation from the Morrisons Foundation towards a new sensory room at the hospital. The donation will make a real difference to the very poorly children at the hospital, enabling them to enjoy some much-needed space away from the clinical ward environment. Sadly many of our patients are too poorly to play with traditional toys so a multi-sensory room is specially designed to give young patients a place to access a wide range of sensory experiences for therapy, learning or fun.

The Morrisons Foundation was set up by Morrisons supermarkets in 2015 and gets most of its funding from the sale of single-use carrier bags. Since launching over £10 million has been given to charities throughout England, Scotland and Wales for charity projects which make a positive difference in local communities.

David Scott, Trustee of the Morrisons Foundation, said: “We’re delighted to be awarding this donation to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity which supports young patients and their families at the hospital. We know that charities from across Manchester are delivering important work and we’re keen to ensure that as many of these as possible can benefit from our funding. We’d love to hear from charities in the area and I would recommend visiting www.morrisonsfoundation.com to find out how to apply for funds.”
