Manchester United coach Phil Neville has become the 1000th person to join Team Humphrey and sign up to the Great Manchester Run in support of Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity.

The United star, who swapped playing for training when he retired as captain of Everton last year, and his wife Julie are patrons of Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity.

The couple became patrons of the charity following the birth of their daughter Isabella in 2004 who was born prematurely at Saint Mary’s Hospital and continues to receive treatment for Cerebral Palsy at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity.

Phil has now joined another 999 people – a record number of participants for RMCH Charity - who will hit the streets of Manchester in Europe’s biggest 10K running event and on Sunday 18th May.

Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity is Manchester City Council’s nominated Charity for this year’s run.

Phil said:

“Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity is a cause that is close to my heart as I have seen and experienced first-hand the difference that charitable funds make to the hospital.  I was delighted to be able to support the charity by signing up as their 1000thrunner in the Great Manchester Run this year.”

“Hopefully I can inspire some more runners to join our team and help us to ensure that Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital isn’t just the largest children’s hospital in the UK, but also one of the very best.”

Hannah Thomas, Events & PR Manager at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity added:

“We’re delighted that Phil has joined Team Humphrey for the run.  This year we want to see as many people as possible crossing the finish line at the Great Manchester Run wearing Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity green t-shirts.

“It’s not too late to join Phil, don your green shirt and support RMCH Charity at the run.  People can still sign up atwww.greatrun.org and tick to run for us.”
