North Manchester General Hospital

North Manchester General Hospital is a large district hospital located in Crumpsall. The extensive hospital site was originally home to three separate hospitals, namely Crumpsall Hospital, Springfield Hospital and Delaunays Hospital, with a long history dating back more than 170 years.

Today the hospital has a full accident and emergency department, which includes a separate paediatric A&E unit. It also offers a full range of general and acute surgical services and is the base for the region’s specialist infectious disease unit.

In recent years, the hospital has undergone extensive work to improve its size and layout. The hospital benefitted from a £35m investment in the Women and Children’s department which now offers a neonatal unit, maternity, labour and children’s wards.

Further development is on the horizon, with plans now underway to build a brand-new acute hospital and wider health and care campus. The ‘once in a generation’ development will transform not only the hospital, but also the wider North Manchester area, creating jobs, promoting healthy lifestyles, and developing skills for the benefit of the local neighbourhood and beyond.
