University Dental Hospital of Manchester

The University Dental Hospital of Manchester is one of the major teaching hospitals in the UK. Founded in 1883, it was initially set up to serve the dental side of the medical school by allowing staff and students to treat patients unable to pay for private dental treatment. The hospital as we know it now was completed in 1972.

The hospital provides a wide range of specialist treatment and the highest standards of care for patients, including oral and maxillofacial specialities, restorative dentistry, child dental health and orthodontics. The Hospital also actively works with a team of student volunteers to deliver dental care to asylum seekers, refugees and other minority groups in Manchester.

The University Dental Hospital of Manchester also provides a training environment for undergraduate dental students, post-graduate dentists, student hygienists and therapists.

The Dental Laboratory Service is another important part of the hospital, supporting dental services across the whole Trust. The laboratories team are continually scoping new advancements in digital technologies, such as work with computer-aided manufacturing and 3D printing, to ensure the Trust remains at the forefront of innovation.
