Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering for our children's hospitals is a fun and rewarding way to help us make a difference. Your time and talent is valuable in helping to support our fundraising work.
We're on the lookout for helpful and reliable volunteers to assist with a wide range of volunteer opportunities in the upcoming months. All funds raised will go towards our Time Saves Lives appeal to build a primary helipad landing site at our central hospital site.
Whether it is store collections, helping out at our events, or assisting in our charity office, there are many ways that you can get involved. Take a look at the list below to see which volunteer opportunity best suits you...
Tesco Store Collection
Since 2011, we’ve kindly been given permission from Tesco to collect in many stores across the North West. Pairs of volunteers are able to collect in the store from 9.30am until 6.00pm.

When: Friday 4th March 2016
How long: We have permission to collect from 9.30am to 6.00pm. Whilst we don’t expect volunteers to be there all day it will help us if you can commit to a two hour slot. Just let us know your preferred times when you get in touch
Any particular skills required: Please bring your best smile to encourage donations. You will need to be able to stand for a few hours at a time, although if this is an issue, we will try our best to organise a chair in-store for you.
Travel: Volunteers will be responsible for making their own way to and from their selected Tesco store.

Manchester City Football Club Collection
We have been given the fantastic opportunity to collect donations at the Etihad Stadium before the Derby match against Manchester United. We require volunteers to assist with the collection in what will be an amazing atmosphere. Thanks to MCFC, we are also able to offer a prize to a pair of volunteers who collect the highest amount. The prize is 2 x tickets to the penultimate MCFC home match of the season against Stoke on Saturday 23rdApril 2016.

How long: 1.45pm until 4pm – all volunteers are required for this time

Manchester City Former Players VS Soap Stars Celebrity XI
A wonderful opportunity to be some of the first people in the new National Speedway Stadium. As a warm-up to the launch of the stadium, a celebrity football match is taking place. Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital has been given kind permission to collect before the match and during half time. All volunteers will receive a ticket to watch the match.
Where: National Speedway Stadium, Pink Bank Lane, Lonsight, Manchester
When: Sunday 13th March 2016
How long: 12.45pm until the end of half time (3.00pm) All volunteers are required for this time and are welcome to stay until the end of the match at approximately 3.45pm

The Great Manchester Run Cheering Bus
Join in the excitement and fun of one of Manchester’s most uplifting days and take your spot on Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity Cheering Bus, which will be on the 10km route in Old Trafford. Your encouragement will truly help our runners complete the run and raise valuable funds for the hospital.
Where: Precise location to be confirmed but will be in walking distance of Trafford Bar Metrolink stop.
When: Sunday 22nd May 2016
How Long: 10.30am to 3pm – we would love volunteers to stay for this time but if you can’t do all of this slot, just let us know when getting in touch.
Number of volunteers required: 30
Any particular skills required: Cheerful deposition and ability to cheer loudly. Water and snacks will be provided.
Travel: Volunteers will be responsible for making their own way to and from the Cheering Bus. Please note there will be road closures in the vicinity of the bus.

Data Inputting
Our fundraising administration team requires a volunteer to help with data input. In our lively office, you’ll be given clear instructions on what is required.

When: Tuesday 23rd February 2016
How Long: 10.30am to 4pm
Number of volunteers required: 1 in the first instance
Any particular skills: Good experience of Microsoft Excel, speed and accuracy

Beach Buggy Big Weekend
Now in its 6th year, this weekend sees a group of Beach Buggies coming to the hospital on the Saturday to entertain our patients. Then on the Sunday, it’s off to VW North West, one of the largest VW shows, at Tatton Park where we have a stall and collection donations from member of the public.

Number of volunteers required: 3
Any particular skills required: We need volunteers on this day to help staff our stall and also be our mascot, Humphrey Bear

Number of volunteers required: 20
Any particular skills required: We need volunteers on this day to help staff our stall, be our mascot, Humphrey Bear and collection donations from the public. Enthusiasm, confidence and your best smile to encourage donations. Please note this event takes place outside.
Travel: Volunteers will be responsible for making their own way to and from hospital.

Stock Taking
Having a good supply of fundraising materials is key to successful fundraising. Help us with our regular stock check.

How Long: 10.30am to 4pm
Number of volunteers required: 1 in the first instance
Any particular skills: Attention to detail, enthusiasm for counting. Please note, there will be requirement for moving and handling in this role.
