We Won Gold at Dig the City!

Playful Garden
Monday 03rd August 2015

We are delighted to have won GOLD for our Playful Garden at this year's Dig the City!

We want to say a big thank you to award-winning designer Sue Jeffries and hospital Play Leader John Smith who designed our amazing garden!

We are thrilled with this award and look forward to the garden being relocated to the hospital where it will be rebuilt on the roof top play area for all the patients to enjoy!

The garden is a low level, 50 centimetres from the ground, to encourage interaction from children, proving extremely popular with its young visitors. Green-fingered pupils from Victoria Park Infant School cultivated an exciting array of plants and herbs, carefully tending to the seedlings were replanted in the ‘Playful Garden’.This sensory garden can then be enjoyed by all patients, regardless of illness or disability.

Hannah Thomas, Events Manager at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity, commented on the garden winning gold:

“We are absolutely delighted to have won gold for our Playful Garden, it is the product of a lot of thoughtful planning from Sue and John, we couldn’t have done it without them. Their skills and knowledge of the therapeutic benefits of nature has enabled us to create a beautiful interactive entry which encourages children to explore their own imaginations.

We are so pleased that we are able to relocate the entry to the hospital’s roof garden following the festival meaning that the garden can be enjoyed long after Dig the City finishes. As a Charity we work to make life easier for our young patients and their families. By bringing the beauty of nature to them it enables them to enjoy the benefits of nature we often take for granted.”
